Preparing For A Hurricane

Hurricanes pose a serious threat, causing significant damage through storm surge, powerful winds, rip currents, and flooding. They can impact any U.S. coastal area or territory in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Historically, storm surge has been the leading cause of hurricane-related fatalities in the United States.

Monitor reliable sources such as the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and local weather alerts for updates.  Sign up for community alerts in your area and be aware of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA), which requires no-sign up.

Hurricanes are among the most powerful and destructive natural disasters, bringing high winds, heavy rain, storm surge, and flooding. Proper hurricane preparedness can save lives and minimize damage to homes and communities. Whether you live in a coastal region or an area prone to severe storms, it’s crucial to have a plan in place.

What is Hurricane Preparedness?
Hurricane preparedness refers to the steps individuals, families, and communities take to protect themselves before, during, and after a hurricane. The key elements include creating an emergency plan, assembling a disaster supply kit, securing your home, and staying informed about evacuation routes and weather alerts.
